The results of a recent international survey show that the majority of those working in the IT sector consider environmental impact to be a key factor in technology selection. According to the survey, 68% of participants stated that they take into account the environmental impact of the digital services and products they use.
According to the research, this indicator is 70% among men and 66% among women. Among respondents under the age of 40, 75% prioritize environmental factors when choosing technology, while this figure is 64% among those over 40. Additionally, 48% of participants consider the environmental impact of internet usage as an urgent issue that must be addressed, and 28% consider it an important factor.
Adam Nethersole, Vice President of Marketing at Kao Data, stated that sustainability is no longer an additional advantage in the IT sector but has become a fundamental business requirement: “The use of renewable energy and green technologies will become even more significant in the coming years” he added.
Users are ready to pay extra for green technologies
According to the survey results, 60% of participants consider environmental impact a top priority when choosing services and products. 83% of male respondents and 74% of female respondents stated that they opt for green technologies. Among participants under 40, 82% prefer environmentally friendly products, compared to 72% among those over 40.
66% of respondents reported that they avoid services and products that harm the environment. Furthermore, 89% of participants stated they are willing to pay extra for green technologies.
Green technologies create a competitive advantage
The research indicates that the transition to green alternatives in the technology market is accelerating. 94% of participants said they would be ready to change their current provider if more environmentally friendly products and services were offered.
Owen Rogers, Technical Director of .ECO domain registration, noted that access to green options for technology companies is increasing: “Hosting services powered by renewable energy and green domains play a key role in this process” he said.
Environmental responsibility — one of the key requirements in the IT sector
91% of survey participants are convinced that environmental responsibility is no longer an option for IT companies but has become a necessary business requirement. More than 90% of respondents believe that green technologies will become even more important in the coming years.
At the same time, there are still key barriers limiting the spread of green technologies. 60% of participants cited high prices, and 57% pointed to technical reliability as the main obstacles.
